Coming around the last turn Scrappy T was in the lead with Afleet Alex coming up on his outside. Just as Afleet Alex started to pass Scrappy T, Scrappy T's jockey whipped him on the left side and Scrappy T veered to the right causing Afleet Alex to clip Scrappy T's heels and Afleet Alex went down to his knees causing Jeremy Rose to almost fall out of the saddle. Afleet Alex didn't go down all the way and managed to recover to win the Preakness by 4 3/4 lengths. That one scary moment definitely made the Preakness an exciting one.

I would like to point out that I was right when I predicted that the horse who won the Derby would not win the Preakness. :P

Afleet Alex, especially after the incident around the last turn, proved today that he is a very good horse. I will be looking forward to seeing him run in the Belmont Stakes in three weeks.

Look at the replay, you might see one of the problems Scrappy T had...trubble4u pointed it out to me. Coming off the turn onto the home stretch, Scrappy T was on the wrong lead; trubble4u and I think maybe that's why he flinched to the side when his jockey started using the whip on the left.

Without that incident, could Scrappy T have made it a closer race? I guess we'll never know...

Yeah, perhaps. Either way Scrappy T was definitely not expecting to be whipped on his left side.

I actually think had that not happened, Afleet Alex would have probably won by more. I think the whole incident threw Afleet Alex off balance more than Scrappy T.
