Act to protect horses from slaughter as food
In the United States we don't breed and raise our horses for human consumption .They are not food animals, and most Americans are against horse slaughter.
It shouldn't be too difficult to limit the numbers of horses born each year. Just don't leave a stallion with the mares, and geld the boys not used for breeding.
Once a horse is on her way to the slaughterhouse, she can be kept in corrals with stallions. No one cares if she is in foal when she gets to the slaughterhouse, so the foals are killed, too.
Many rescuers buy back horses from slaughterhouses and find them homes. We will do more of this when our horses are protected from slaughter.
Don't fear that saving horses will lead to efforts to prevent the slaughter and eating of food animals such as beef. I just believe a horse is not a cow. It is a companion animal.
The government requires me to get my pet dog his rabies shots and make sure he is fed and watered. I can't take him to an auction and sell him to a slaughterhouse to be fed as delicacy to people in China.
When you decide that the slaughter of our horses for human consumption in France, Japan and Belgium is not what Americans want and approve of, contact your senators and ask them to support Senate Bill 1915. The House passed HR 503, their version of the bill, in September. Let's make noise for the horses now.
