[livejournal.com profile] crimsonknight, you once said you'd never watch horse racing (or something to that effect) again because of the way you think they are bred. If you really wanted to get upset about something dealing with horses after their racing careers, and horses in general, here you go:

Ferdinand, the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner and 1987 Horse of the Year, was slaughtered last year simply because he turned out to not be a great stud horse... Yeah, like that is real fair.

I'm not even going to go into the cruelty of the way horses are slaughtered. Yes, I have sort of mentioned this before. I posted a link to an article about the slaughtering of horses.

It Shouldn't Take a Champion to Save a Live

The National Horse Protection Coalition

There is information on their about a federal bill being brought to the House and even a bill at the state level for Illinois to close the slaughtering plant there.

I urge anyone who cares to contact their representative about this.
